Abundance – Karin Fulcher
Delta Optimist -September 26th, 2009
As our amazing weather continues on into Fall, and we approach the season of Thanksgiving, it seems appropriate to consider the bounty of the community in which we live.
All around us are fields ripe with vegetables, the stores are filled with produce from the Okanagan and local farms, and trees in gardens in my neighbourhood are bowed low with fruit.
It has been a summer of abundance, and I hope that many have been fortunate to take some time away for rest and refreshment, enjoying the seemingly endless days of sunshine and warm temperatures.
As we store up the fruits and vegetables of this growing season to enjoy in the dark winter months, can we also remember the gifts with which God has blessed us. Around us we see fields and oceans, birds, bunnies, and all manner of blessings. How can we share these gifts with those around us who are less fortunate?
Like many communities, Delta has food banks eager for donations so that the less fortunate can partake of the bounty of our neighbourhoods; we have lonely people desperate for a kind word or friendly touch in addition to more tangible items.
Jesus said that He came to give us life, and give us life in abundance (John 10: 10). Sometimes it is the little things that can give the most encouragement. As we give thanks, let us remember to try and share a part of our abundance to enhance the lives of others in our community.
